We’ve got more StoryRise events happening in 2009. Currently, we’re planning on the third Saturday of every month to be our “regular” night. This year, we decided to use the “National Month of….” as the themes for each Saturday gathering. The featured tellers will be challenged to create the most interesting program of stories based somehow around the month’s theme. The Challenge: Take a theme that might be a bit “beige” and bring it to vibrant life.
2009 Schedule and Themes:
National Courtesy Month (Relationships done right and some gone wrong.)
With Featured Storyteller Carol Knarr from Indiana.
Adopt A Shelter Dog Month (Pooches and pets potpourri.)
With Featured Storyteller Harriet Cole
International Drum Month (National Tellabration Night with Stories of Music and Song.)
With Featured Storyteller Elly Reidy.
National Calendar Awareness Month (The past, present and the future all around us.)
With Featured Storyteller Liz Warren.
We’re happy to tell you that our next StoryRise event features Sean Buvala and Sandy Oglesby. Learn more about these tellers on our “performers” page.

Come join us as storyteller Sean and Sandy share stories for adults. This isn’t reading and it’s not spoken word. It’s storytelling for adults. This month the theme is “National Photo Month.” YOU are encouraged to bring a family photo or your own to share a story with one or two other audience members. Too much fun.
Don’t bring the little ones, this isn’t for kiddies. You’ve been advised ;-).
We’re happy to tell you that we have added Sandy Oglesby to the share the “stage” with Sean at the next StoryRise event, 3/17/2009, in Goodyear, Arizona. Sandy is an Arizona storyteller with plenty of telling experience in many other countries, including Ireland. See her bio on the Performers page on this site.

Our March 2009 Theme:
Irish Stories from Before and Then:
Stolen Women, Pookas, Demon Cats, Foggy Hills and Misperceptions are just some of the things you’ll hear when you listen to us tell to you about the stories from Celtic Lands. Laugh strong and we might even throw in the Salmon of Knowledge, too.

West-Valley resident K. Sean Buvala has been kept busy performing and teaching storytelling for 23 years. In whatever state you call home, Sean has probably performed there. Recognized by the National Storytelling Network with the “Oracle Award,” Sean describes his stories as somewhere between “in your life and in your face” depending on the needs of his audience at any moment. When he’s not working in performances, you can find Sean coaching and training other artists or working as a trainer for corporate and non-profit leaders, teaching them to use the power of storytelling to develop their own businesses. He’s the founder of Storyteller.net. Find his website at http://www.seantells.net
StoryRise presents both local and national storytellers in a one-hour fringe-theater performance. This is not an open-mic night.
This event is free of charge. We invite you to enjoy a food and beverage purchase from Ground Control’s reasonably-priced menu.
Produced by Storyteller.net and The Arizona Storytelling Guild. This event is not intended for small children.
Space is (really truly) limited, so please arrive early. Ground Control offers wine-tasting at 6PM for a minimal charge. Contact them at 623.935.2604 for details.
